Mr. Semmens is a U.S. Air Force veteran and graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelors in Business Administration degree.  His professional career began with a big eight CPA firm in Anchorage and was followed by 15 years in the finance department at the Kenai Peninsula Borough where he was promoted to Finance Director.  The next 12 years were with the City of Kenai as Finance Director.  In 2008 Mr. Semmens was appointed to the City Manager position at Soldotna.

Mr. Semmens is a certified public accountant, was past president of the Alaska Government Finance Officers Association and is currently a commissioner on the State of Alaska Local Boundary Commission.  He is the chair of the Alaska Public Entities Insurance Pool Board and served as chair of the Aurora Borealis Charter School board for many years.  In 2006 the Alaska Municipal League selected Mr. Semmens as the recipient of the Vic Fisher Local Government Leadership Award for his work as a member of the Alaska Retirement Management Board and for his contributions related to the State’s retirement system challenges.

Mr. Semmens has been married to Susan for over 30 years and they have four children and two grandchildren.  He says ‘Soldotna has been and will continue to be one of the very best places to live and raise a family.’
