CITY OF SOLDOTNA - CITY MANAGER

SALARY: $110,000 TO $132,000 DoE

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The City of Soldotna is recruiting for a new city manager due to retirement of the current manager in October. The City is in excellent financial condition and has an annual budget of approximately $13 million. The City provides typical municipal services including library, police, animal control, airport, planning and zoning, street maintenance, water and sewer, building inspection/permitting and public works infrastructure. Parks and Recreation services include the 55,000 square foot Soldotna Sports Center, parks, fields and playgrounds, campgrounds, Kenai River fishing infrastructure and fishing walkways. Emergency and fire services are provided by Central Emergency Services, a Kenai Peninsula Borough service area.

 

The current relationship between the Mayor/Council and administration is excellent. Key City staff are well qualified and staffing levels are adequate. Soldotna is on the road system in the heart of the Kenai Peninsula. The City enjoys the beautiful and bountiful Kenai River flowing through the center of town and is one of the best places in Alaska to live, work and play. Schools are well funded and highly-performing. The Kenai Peninsula College, Central Peninsula Hospital and the seat of the Kenai Peninsula Borough are within Soldotna City limits. Soldotna has maintained interest from existing key retailers and developers are interested in bringing new retail businesses to the area, resulting in reduced property tax rates due to sustainable sales tax revenue. The cost of living is lower in Soldotna than much of Alaska.

 

The city manager position is not currently covered by PERS, but can return to the PERS system by resolution of the City Council if desired by the successful applicant.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree and increasingly responsible relevant work experience or a Master’s degree in one of the following: Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science or other closely related field. Other desired qualifications include:

 

• Demonstrated ability to supervise staff to achieve organizational goals.

• Knowledge of Alaska statutes related to municipal government and experience with state granting processes

• Experience negotiating union contracts

SHORT-TERM SUMMER HIRE 2012


POSITIONS: Park Attendants

Starts approximately May 20, 2012 - Ends approximately August 30, 2012

 

PAY: $8.68 per hour

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Campground booth parking attendant duties including but not limited to, greeting customers, collecting fees, writing receipts, bundling firewood as well as at times provides general landscaping duties such as raking, weeding, and may be assigned to special event support for the department.

 

WORK SCHEDULE: A varied work schedule is required Monday – Sunday depending upon season and/or project needs.
